El color del filtro no es indicador de la protección a la radiación solar de las lentes, pero sí tenemos que tenerlo en cuenta porque dependiendo de la actividad que vayamos a realizar, unos son más adecuados que otros.

Podemos elegir entre:
• Verde: permite una percepción de colores con pocas alteraciones. Reduce la luz visible sin interferir en la claridad de la visión. Se deben utilizar para practicar deportes náuticos y en casos de hipermetropía.
• Marrón: es capaz de filtrar las radiaciones azules, y aumenta el contraste y la profundidad de campo. Está indicado para los deportes al aire libre y las personas con miopía.
• Gris: transmite uniformemente la luz a través del espectro y respecta mejor los colores naturales. Es una buena elección para conducir.
• Amarillo: no es recomendable para conducir en día soleados, ya que puede provocar errores en la percepción de las luces de los semáforos. Sin embargo, es muy válido en días nublosos, brumosos o con niebla.
• Naranja: es el más apropiado en condiciones de baja luminosidad, como la conducción nocturna o con niebla, ya que incrementa los niveles de contraste. Sin embargo, no es apto para protegernos de la luz solar.
