Presbicia: qué es y síntomas

La presbicia se origina cuando el cristalino con los años, pierde flexibilidad y, por ello, su capacidad de enfocar a corta o media distancia se deteriora. También conocida como vista cansada, la presbicia es una parte natural y a la vez molesta de la edad.

Al igual que otras partes del cuerpo, el ojo sufre las erosiones derivadas de la edad.

Se trata de la pérdida de acomodación del ojo y es un proceso degenerativo, por lo que no existe forma de prevenir o retrasar su aparición. Esta alteración fisiológica empieza entre los 40 y 45 años y va empeorando hasta alrededor de los 65 años, perdiendo capacidad de enfocar objetos cercanos.

La presbicia afecta directamente al día a día de la persona y puede llegar a ocasionarle diversos problemas. La detección de la presbicia habitualmente se realiza a través de un examen optométrico, realizado por el óptico-optometrista, donde se revisa el grado de afección visual y se ofrece una solución para compensarlo.

Pero, ¿qué síntomas puede presentar una persona con presbicia?

• Alejarse los textos que necesita leer.

• Visión borrosa a una distancia habitual de lectura.

• Baile de letras

• Cansancio ocular o fatiga visual al realizar lecturas o trabajos que requieran cercanía visual o esfuerzo visual

• Dolores de cabeza derivados del esfuerzo realizado por el ojo para adquirir la información de los objetos que manipula

• Dificultad para leer letras pequeñas o identificar detalles en objetos cercanos

• Necesidad de mayor luz para leer

• Cansancio al usar la visión de cerca

• Sensación constante de cansancio en los ojos

Ante la aparición de alguno de los síntomas previamente descritos, la recomendación desde el Consejo General es visitar a un óptico-optometrista para dejarse aconsejar y buscar la mejor solución.
